Pulitzer Prize-winning composer David Lang had a revelation in a soccer stadium: being in a crowd was both sociable and lonely. The fruit of that thought is crowd out, a piece that combines lyrics generated via search engine, the human voice spoken, sung, and shouted, and the dynamic movement of people in a public space. In collaboration with Illinois Humanities, which is reaching into all 50 of Chicago’s wards to gather participants, CHF will produce the American premiere of Lang’s gargantuan work. Be sure to be at Cloud Gate for this unique event.
