On MSNBC, Melissa Harris-Perry developed a unique mix of scholarly expertise and political commentary to tackle the topics of the day, an approach that made her a wildly popular TV host with a devoted fan base. Now Harris-Perry has taken her show’s format live and on the road! MHP Live comes to CHF with a mix of topics and guests designed to dig deeply into guns and gun violence.
This program is presented in partnership with Illinois Humanities as part of the Pulitzer Prizes Centennial Campfires Initiative in celebration of the 2016 centennial of the Prizes.
Melissa Harris-Perry hosted the television show “Melissa Harris-Perry” from 2012-2016 on weekend mornings on MSNBC. She is currently Editor-at-Large at ELLE.com and the Maya Angelou Presidential Chair at Wake Forest University. Her books include the award-winning Barbershops, Bibles, and BET: Everyday Talk and Black Political Thought, and Sister Citizen: Shame, Stereotypes, and Black Women in America. Harris-Perry received her B.A. degree in English from Wake Forest University and her Ph.D. degree in political science from Duke University. Harris-Perry previously served on the faculty of the University of Chicago, Princeton University, and Tulane University.
